Food Passport - India




This week our family "traveled" to India with our Food Passport. India is such a beautiful county in South Asia... the land, culture, the people... we loved learning about this amazing place.

From the Himalayan peeks to the Indian Ocean the history of this county is immense. We only "dipped our toes into the water" learning about Ancient India. Many of the videos we watched came from HERE

 




Our boys, Aidan and Noah, discovered interesting facts about India A few are:
  • Their flag (The Saffron color, indicating the strength and courage of the country. The white middle band indicates peace and truth with Dharma Chakra. The last band is green in color and shows the fertility and growth of the land.)
  • Gandhi (We all enjoyed our read aloud about his life). 
  • India's culture and cuisine:  
  • Sights and Sounds Of India: 
  • The Taj Mahal: 

There are still many things we want to learn about India, so our studies will continue. It's a remarkable country. 

After learning about India this week we enjoyed Curry-Spiced Cod and Summer Squash. The seasonings included garam masala,  turmeric and cumin. We also enjoyed naan with a bit of garlicky butter along with basmati rice and fresh herbs. Our boys were not impressed with our Indian cuisine. They did however enjoy the naan, cooling yogurt and sweet raisins that helped balance the spices of the meal. My husband enjoyed the curry-spiced cod! This dinner was certainly a new experience for our family.
