Grayson Highlands State Park

Have I mentioned how much our family loves visiting VA State Parks! Our field trip # 6 was to Grayson Highlands State Park. We have been to this park MANY times in the past; we always have a great time there. This was a beautiful day for hiking, a picnic, learning about vascular and non vascular plants (as well as other nature studies), taking in the views and just having a great family day!

Grayson Highlands State Park is located near Mount Rogers and Whitetop Mountain, Virginia's two highest mountains. Grayson offers scenic views of peaks more than 5,000 feet high. There are campgrounds, many hiking trails (as well as access to the Appalachian Trail), scenic horse trails and much more! The park is open from 8am until 10pm and this is a park you don't want to miss!

When we arrived the first thing we wanted to do was visit the overlook and take many fall pictures. Look at that beautiful view! Next, after climbing around on the rocks; our boys always love the HUGE rocks. Then we went on a few hiking trails.

So much adventure awaits you on these trails. I love sharing this time with my husband and boys... we love our little adventures!

Inside of Grayson Highlands State Park are a few historical buildings. This was a great time to give the boys a little history lesson on the buildings and objects that are there.

This is a beautiful park, especially during the fall. We are so blessed to live close to all of these amazing State Parks. There is so much more to experience at Grayson Highlands we just ran out of daylight and had to head home. But we will be back very soon! Of course our trip would not be complete without seeing a few deer.....

Happy trails....
